"Using Vegas to render (convert) a Flip movie to wmv"

I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11. When attempting to convert a Flip movie (not an individual mpg4 but a Flip movie made with the Flip movie maker software), all I can get is audio in the Vegas desktop. Thus, Vegas does not offer the option of rendering the mpg4 to the wmv format.

To clarify...this only occurs with a mpg4 file that has been made into a movie combining individual mpg4 clips within the Flip software. The mpg4 movie plays normally with Windows Media Player 12 and with QuickTime as expected but I need to be able to convert to wmv for Windows Media Player 11 in Windows XP without paying for or downloading questionable CODECs.

I'll also accept suggestions for reliable free or low-cost video conversion apps other than Vegas.

Try using Format Factory.

Dave

edit: I am unable to embed the link. The url is www.formatoz.com, but the forum changes it www.atoz.com when I post it.

I even tried typing it in as www.formformatoz.com, which still truncates to www.atoz.com. I guess the forum doesn't like the word 'form'.

The "form" imbedded link issue periodically surfaces. Piriform does the same thing so the link has to be displayed "naked" (My description of a link with no clothes!).

I believe I've heard of Format Factory before. Will look into it. Thanks!

Be warned about Format Factory. It installs the ASK toolbar and Changes
your Home screen with out warning. There is no OPT out that is obvious.
So be prepared for a little surprise if you install.

Allyn,

You could install an older version of Format Factory. It appears that only the latest version has the ASK issue. Older versions either didn't include it, or had an opt out check box.

I don't know "Flip" (slang term for jack about jack ?) but again I'd say to try Pazera.

From ... "Audio format converter for WMA Lossless VBR"
http://www.pcqanda.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=2&topic_id=541497

Either the Zune Video Converter or the Video Converters Suite & see what it can do.
I'm sure that they're again using ffmpeg to do the actual work.

Format Factory does a very decent job of conversion on just about anything thrown at it, from pictures to videos, etc. I would just suggest staying away from the recent release. Older versions are easy to come by.
