" network printer status is not available" Thu Jul-09-09 01:08 AM by Digiti 123
I was greeted with this message in my Samsung ML-2851ND Laser printer panel when I tried to print wirelessly from my DELL WinXPsp3 laptop. I can print to my other two inkjet printers on the same network with no problems. I repaired the Samsung driver installation in Add/Remove Software, uninstalled and reinstalled Samsung drivers and software, tried system restore in safe mode, and in regular mode. I also tried stopping and starting the print spooler service in services misc. In addition,I tried deleting and recreating TCP/IP printer ports and I turned off the firewall in NIS 2009. All these attempts did not work. This networked printer worked flawlessly for over one year. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I am using a Linksys WRT54GS G router and the IP address of the printer is 192.168.1.102. The Samsung Syncthru configuration page at that address is also not accessible anymore.
Can any other PC print to the Samsung printer through the network?
Can you print a configuration page using the controls on the printer? This would probably show you the IP address that the printer actually has.
The IP address for the printer, 192.168.1.102 is within the default DHCP range for the router. If this address was set as static in the printer's configuration, and you didn't adjust the DHCP range of the router, you are asking for problems. If the printer was configured for a dynamic IP address, the router may have assigned a different address, and the printer software on the PC may not be smart enough to find the new address. This is where a configuration page from the printer would be handy. I don't know if your printer has the capability to provide such a page.
Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

I have two softwares that show my network connections: Linksys Easylink Advisor and Dell Network Assistant. Both of these show the IP address of the printer as 192.168.1.102 and that it is connected and online? However, the desktop computer can print to the printer through its USB connection with no problem, the laptop wireless link to the printer is the problem. I used to be able to type the IP address of the printer and see a configuration page called Samsung Synthru. The wired and wireless computers cannot access this page at all anymore. Any suggestions please.
I am able to print to this printer wirelessly through printer sharing when the desktop is turned on. This printer is hard wired to the desktop through USB. I cannot print if the desktop is turned off. Like I said this is a recent occurrence it worked very well before.
I was able to fix the problem by going into the printer's configuration menu then changing the fixed IP address from 192.168.1.102 to 192.168.1.103. I then changed the TCP/IP port address in the Samsung printer setup in the Control Panel to this IP address. I made sure no other component on the network used this IP. Why I had to do this I do not know. Thanks for the replies.
