burgers
what do you want, for a burger

back in the day
- thinking the early 70's
my parents were away
- they used to be able to do things like that, in those days
they were traveling in puerto rico, or wherever
& we were home, alone
- heaven forbid
& hardee's was having a special on regular burgers
10 cents
so i walked up there & ordered, 100
- they didn't flinch, but said it would take a little time, i said, OK
we didn't have much money
but we did have $10
so 100 burgers it was
& with 6 brothers, & friends
& a freezer downstairs, & a microwave upstairs...

pop warner football & whatnot
after games
the team would go to the local McDonalds or pizza joint
- owned by one of the coaches...

What I want on a hamburger it this. Slightly toast the bun, spread with a thin layer of mayo, and mustard on both bun pieces. Then layer lettuce, tomato, sliced onion red or white, big slice dill pickle place burger on bun bottom and top with bun top. No ketchup or cheese on my burgers.When we buy burgers at Burger King I always tell them no mayo because they put way too much on and the burger drowns in it.
