104333, Oldies' old photographs
Posted by npmcl, Sat Jan-28-06 02:12 PM
As there was a some interest in the memories etc of the oldies on the forum recently I thought that it would be interesting for us to post our old photos of ourselves when children. Give us all a laugh, I'll start with mine. Shelly and others, have you got any photos? Don't be shy.

My childhood pictures are long gone, destroyed in a fire years ago. How I wish I still had them. I think the oldest pictures I have are from my 20's.

I'm sure that most of us, in the last couple years, have burned old photos to CDs, and given copies to kids and family. (Be sure to add captions so the next generation knows who was who).

I finally did most of the photos, including our wedding album (44 years this July), last year.

Me about 1938 or 39 in my grandpa's outhouse in Noel, Missouri. We were getting ready to go home (to Des Moines, Iowa) and my dad told me to go to the outhouse before we left. He had his brownie box camera and snapped this picture.

Thanks for all the wonderful pictures. I'm a genealogy nut so please, when you lable your images, do a little more than just the name. Indicate the relationship such as son/daughter of or father/mother of and also date and place. Twenty years from now your decendants will appreciate your efforts.

My family owned this theater in Texas, near El Paso. We all worked to
make it happen...my Dad was the projectionist, my sister took tickets,
my Mom sold the tickets, and I was the popcorn boy...(a nickel a bag)...
notice ticket prices...can you see the name of the movie? BTW, that's me wearing the belt AND the suspenders...never can be too sure...

The film appears to be "Young Tom Edison" with Mickey Rooney, which would make it around 1940.

I love messing around with photos, and on another forum they posted this amazing program. RECOLORED
I only tweaked the color on Jason's and Jan's pics but see what this easy program did to the other pics.

It's a beta program that will probably go commercial and cost money at some point. It is therefore set to stop working on that date.

Glad everyone is enjoying the pics :D It is a fun program.

Davy..I did it. You are now in the album.
LilJoe..sorry about the blonde hair will fix it later.
Noreen.. Shelly is correct about it being a beta. My first download just expired so grabbed the new one. Printing is now possible.
Jazz..I think that pic was taken in Womelsdorf Pa. How's that for a Pensy Dutch name
Middle-age spread is setting in but my legs are STILL skinny
104515, RE: Oldies' old photographs
Posted by npmcl, Wed Feb-01-06 10:30 PM
Yes I realised that it was a beta program, what worries me is the 10 March date.

I've been playing with the program for a while. I was working on a poor quality black and white photograph of a friends father taken in world war 2. It works pretty good, but needs some polish yet. It relies on edge detection to determine the fill areas, so the colors are hard to contain on small areas with fuzzy edges or edges lost in shadows like eyebrows.

There are no metalic colors offered. The array of colors offered for hair, lips, skin, etc. are very limited in range since it seems to be limited to 256 colors, and I have found no way to accurately mix colors.

Going back to change colors or erase areas after colorizing is not possible as far as I can see. Obviously, the program is still beta and can be expected to improve. It has a lot of promise.
