566936, How to Delete Windows 10 Application Compatibility Assistant
Posted by aldago, Wed Apr-28-21 07:04 PM
I'm about ready to give up and return to Linux Mint. I'm using windows 10 pro version 20H2 Build 19042.928. All the apps I use are running smoothly with no problem. I keep getting a bothersome notification that some app can't run smoothly on Windows 10 and I get the notification whether or not any apps that I've installed are running. Don't know what app it's referring to and, frankly, don't care at this point. I can't get rid of this nag which pops up whenever, whether I'm in the middle of some work or not and It's difficult to turn the notification of or to uninstall Windows 10 Compatibility Assistant. It doesn't show up in Programs and Features so that I can delete it. I've got the Service disabled which hasn't helped. My research has indicated that many people are having this problem. Has anyone ever found a solution???

It sounds like you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Why not just turn the services back on and see if the message goes away. I have virtually no problems with the same OS build and am happy with the way it runs. My machine is getting a little long in the tooth and it still runs anything I choose to throw at it. Gave up Destiny-2 because they capped all my good weapons. Currently enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn.

I agree. This Windows version runs every application I'm using with no apparent problem. However, I still get dozens of messages continuously from Windows 10 Update Assistant that "This app can't run on this device" without telling me which application is the problem. It will be a pain to change every application to run in Compatibility Mode. When I check Task Manager, the only applications I see are Firefox, Notepad and Program Compatibility Assistant which doesn't seem to help define the offending app. Any idea how I can find out which application it doesn't like?

Nirsofts AppCompatibilityView should help point out just which programs Windows has set up to run in "compatibility mode". (And I guess that will differ from what you may have open at a particular time.)

View / modify compatibility settings of Windows applications stored in AppCompatFlags Registry key.
