566109, Ransomware popup

Earlier today, I had a ransomware popup appear during a Firefox session. My usual procedure is to open Task Manager and quit the browser, and then run my various security scans. Having run the scans and restarting my computer and starting Firefox, the popup reappeared. I again ran my scans, i.e. Superantispyware, CCleaner, and Windows Security, along with Spywareblaster. Restarted, and all is well so far. In Windows Security, I turned on Ransomware protection. We'll see how it goes for now, but I'm open to any suggestions.

BTY, the Rensomware popup appeared while I was browsing in FaceBook and I tapped on a notice about Betty White.

Bobbo, run a one time ESET online scan just to make sure (https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/). If the scan will not run it will tell you if they got some hooks into you. Check the box for removing unwanted programs too. Next time one of those things pop up, shut off your power before you do anything. That won't hurt Windows 10 at all and gives their program less time to operate before booting back up. Do not literally pull the plug though, that might cause some unwanted surges.

Thanks for the response. I downloaded and ran ESET which found one problem and removed it. I had forgotten about ESET and even had one installation from 2015. Will report back if the problem reccurs.

If we get caught, and the cautious among us won't, we can use our regular backups. I run 2 different image backup programs every week, and keep the backup drive disconnected, when not in use.

Good point. Will disconnect the backup drive except when it’s in use.
