565004, Win License/MSOffice License FAIL

I'm 99.9999% certain that my beloved pc shop doesn't read this forum. I bought my newest pc from them vs building my own. (been building my own and repairing others for 15 years). This 'new' pc is built in this small, two man shop, not mass produced. Great machine. After one year MS pushes internal warnings of loss of activation of Win 7 and that Office 10 is expiring. I sat down with the owner and had a heart-to-heart talk. He insists licenses were valid. His story is that he had "several" of these fails in last year. He says I picked up MS updates for 7 and Office 10 that had programing in them which "broke" (my word choice) my licenses. He claims it is an MS fail. Unfortunately I must take pc to him for a new image and licenses and he proomises this won't happen again. You know this will remove my small, incidental programs and tweaks and force me to set those up again. Ever hear of this??? ps, has SSHD for OS and Programs but I store almost all data on one of two 1gig platters, and copy to the 2nd platter every night during off-hours.

I've never heard of a 7 license being broken by an update of any kind unless it wasn't legit in the first place. I'm not sure how office 10 works if it's a yearly subscription like 365 or a buy it once license like 2007 that I still use.

Thanks for reply. Agree with you on Win 7 license. The Office 10 I was suspicious of when I bought the machine bacause (in vague recesses of my mind) I perhaps remember seeing I'd have to address something in a year. But I knew then and now I'd never want 365. I'd want a real permanent license. Time will tell.

Maybe owner was taken, maybe not, but legit licenses don't get broken by legit updates.

I've had my repaired Win7 box for a week and the OS part is 'the same'. The license or key has changed but the few programs and tweaks I added are still there. The Office suite was updated from 10 to 13 and of course behaves differently but opens my docs, spreadsheets fine. Owner of the 3 man shop did say he uses his MS approved reseller's license, but again I could not pin him down on a specific of why my nearly year-old licenses failed. He again pointed to a machine on his workbench and said that it had the same problem. Guess I'll have to wait another 11 months to see if this setup burps...again.I really believe this 10-15 year-old shop, which does a lot of business, is honest. They have a great reputation in the area.

You can set your system time and date a year or more ahead and see what happens.

You can also get your key using something like Magical Jelly Bean KeyFinder, then Google the key you get to see if anything suspicious like torrent sites come up with that key.
