564460, PCQandA HTTPS
Posted by jasonlevine, Sun Aug-20-17 02:29 AM
Google Chrome is going start warning people if a site they are visiting via HTTP contains a text box. Even if said text box isn't for collecting a credit card number or other personal information. Of course, that includes PCQandA. I was going to get an SSL certificate, but then got a notice that we already had one. Surprisingly, all of my sites are available via HTTPS! (Though I need to tweak GhostThiefNovel.com a bit as something's not loading right there via HTTPS.)

My question for everyone: Can you view and use PCQandA when you go to it via https://www.pcqanda.com/ ?

I obviously can since I'm posting this via HTTPS, but I want to get a good cross section before I decide whether to make this site secure-only.

Yes, to PCQandA.com BUT I had to log in to the HTTPS when I was already logged into HTTP.

It works for me. This was also an issue with Firefox.

Jason,
I had mentioned this in a post in the moderators forum, don't know if you saw it.

No problem here using Firefox, didn't have to relogin.
Except that instead of showing a green padlock symbol it showed a grey padlock with a yellow triangle. When I click the circle it shows:
Could it be because there is mixed content i.e. links to non-secure pages? Just guessing, don't know much about https!

No problem connecting https: I do have warning about insecure parts of the pages.

Logged in perfectly normally with the https link. Stayed logged in and used my standard settings.

I don't know the hows and whys, but I use "https everywhere," and it doesn't switch here (it's supposed to grab the "s" url whenever it's available.)

But your link works fine - no login necessary.

How do you like that.
Never even occurred to me to even test for https:.

Yes.

SeaMonkey 2.49.1.

Mixed content is mentioned, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mixed-content-blocking-firefox.

I would not have expect Login status to persist from http: to https:, & as it does - for me, so guessing it has to do with cookies (the acceptance of) that is maintaining login?

Yup. Cookies are used to maintain login so you should be able to stay logged in from http to https. Given all the positive responses, I might update the site to go HTTPS only. (I'll post a notice before I do so in case anyone has troubles.)
