541034, Office Suite X vs Open Office

Anyone have any comments on which open source office suite they like better? I never heard of Office Suite X before and I already have Open Office. I really would like to have Microsoft Office 2010 but just don't want to fork out the bucks right now unless someone can point me to a good sale. I need it mainly for updating my resume in word format atm. Course using excel spreadsheets etc. is necessary too.

I was about to install Office Suite X and Avira seemed to notice some spyware so I removed it and I've temporarily halted the install. Any thots would be appreciated.

Considering I'm having a heck of a time finding a home page for it and virtually no information about it other than that download site you linked to, I'd stay away from it. Plus on that site it says it was developed from the Open Office source code. So why not just use Open Office? Especially since you already have Open Office.

IT IS BOGUS!

All they are doing is putting a "wrapper" onto someone else's work (download). They are open about it, kind of - if you happen to look, but otherwise, they are about nothing except to deceive.

One Dead Giveaway about what your getting is when it says "Free Download". Anytime you see "Free Download" there is always some kind
of "gotcha". It means what it says. Free to "Download" but not necessarily to have for free.

Window title says "RAR Software Setup".
So we must be installing "RAR", right?
WRONG!
And if you don't look, you would think that the License Agreement is for "RAR?, right?
WRONG!

Since this is nothing but a "stub" installer, it needs to download more (goodies).

Now here is the real license agreement for ... for what, I'm not sure? Some "Un-Zip for Windows", whatever that is.
Note the part about "modified".

Hey, Malwarebytes thinks something is amiss! (Adware Gameplaylabs, sounds like fun.)
But I know what I'm doing, cause IWANTTHIS-US.EXE!

Some 'ol temp file left around. (Using a real copy of 7zip to view its contents.)

Some bogus "Un-Rar for Windows" on the left. A real copy of 7z922 on the right.
Again notice the "modified" (though the license calls it "Un-Zip").

And here is what you're left with, a surprise?
It looks like 7zip, it says "Un-Rar" or "Un-RAR".
What is it? Only your hairdresser knows.

I've been using LibreOffice. It was developed by some people that worked on OpenOffice. Or you could just use OpenOffice. :lol:

thanks, like I said, I'm mostly interested in updating my resume and looking for some nice templates that are compatible with word. I wish I could afford to just run out and purchase Office 2010, life would be so much easier, lol. Thanks all.

What about an older version of Office? Office 2007 Home and Student version can be found for a good bit less than Office 2010. Depends on what you feel is too much.
