525240, Unable to create short cut
Posted by TV Man 436 163, Thu Oct-28-10 04:12 PM
OS = Windows 7
I'm unable to create a shortcut on my desktop.

When I click on Start
Then I click on Programs
Then I select a Program Folder and click on it
Then I select a program and right click on it.
A box will come up but their is no send to desktop prompt in the box.

My question is how do I get the send to desktop prompt back?

Thank You

Open any Windows Explorer Window (My Documents would work). Locate the location bar at the top (long text bar to the right of back and forward button where your current folder location is shown). In that location bar, click the icon at the far left so you can type in a new location. Type
shell:sendto
Press Enter and you should be in the SendTo folder. Right click an open area and opt to 'New>Text Document'. Right click the new text file and choose to 'Rename'. Rename the file
Desktop (Create Shortcut).Desklink
You can change the name if you want but the file extension must be DeskLink. Ignore the warning about changing file extensions. Close the folder and you should be back in business. If not, there is a registry issue with the Desklink file type.

(So looking at this, I right-click on a "Games" (directory or whatever it might be, no clue, never looked or clicked on it before). Anyhow this virus <W7 some may call it> brings up this dialog - that I MUST answer! There is only a OK button, no Cancel or even Close button. So simply because I happened to click some entry on my Start menu, I am forced <again like a virus> to read the dialog & perform an action with it. And lets not forget that I have no idea what the options offered to me mean! "Set up game updates and options". Such BS!)

Anyhow, there was no right-click sendTo available for this "Games" (whatever it might be).

Thinking that some "Folders" are not true folders, in the normal sense of the word. Probably this aforementioned Games folder.
