Now, there is a challenge!

10678, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by dubber, Wed Jan-02-02 01:09 PM
Maybe not.
#91 Team-

More stats-

As near as I can tell, this team did not turn in any results yesterday. I could only check the results from the top 500 teams, so they may have turned in some.
Averages can be deceiving, but their daily average is less than 15,000 and ours is 20,000 to 22,000+.

I think a lot of these teams probably started out smoking, but lost members or just quit..i wouldn't be surprised if in the next few months we moved in the the 80's. maybe even the top 50 teams in the next 6 months...we just gotta keep recruiting!!!

Thank You! The results of PC911 Teamwork. That's what makes this place so special. All of the work was done freely by talented, generous with their time, forum regulars. Thanks and credit goes to Vitalt, Seracca and Roni. :D :D :D
All I had to do was take my digital camera and go burn up a set of tires. }>

Uh oh, Vitalt's gaining on me. My computer's had a lot of off-time over Christmas while I haven't been home, and I had to turn off the agent on my housemate's computers when they got home. So, most of my current contribution is from a P166 laptop :(
I've got a 486/66 waiting to be restored to glory, that'll keep 'em off my back.
|
10684, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by vitalt, Wed Jan-02-02 08:02 PM
amd k6 300 about to be added to the arsenal so you better turbocharge that 486..i believe spezi has the blueprints on how to do that....:-)

|
10692, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by vitalt, Wed Jan-02-02 10:59 PM
click on your device icon on the dask bar and then go to scores and rewards then log in when you get to the page it has a section on the lower left that says join a team or quit a team etc... choose join a team and then choose pc911 thats all you need to do to join the team.
rhbowler is the next one that spezi is trying to catch in the points standings.
if your device isnt loaded yet... see the links that dubber put up at the begining of this thread...sometimes you wont be added right away as the system database updates at a specific time if i remember correctly there is also a lot of stuff on the home page as you already have seen.
|

Pokey little ole' ME?? He oughta catch me easy enough. I sold my 1200 T bird, so it's outa the loop. Only runnin my 1.4 bird now. I do have enough pieces to put together a little 950 Duron, so maybe i'll do that and see if i can't at least hold him off a little longer.

10701, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by miztrial, Wed Jan-02-02 11:58 PM
I just broke the 200,000 points barrier! I'm doing my best here....4 machines running 24/7, (have to keep swapping net cable from one to another one when a unit is done) plus one at the office, but I still don't understand why my CPU time is so low! Next goal (now that I've safely passed Casca) is to sneak up on Alex! :-)

|
10702, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by vitalt, Thu Jan-03-02 12:04 AM
congrats on the milestone... it'll be a loooong while before i ever get close to that....btw..any chance you had of sneakin up on CrazyGerman is gone now that you warned him.....:-)

You are looking good, Anne. Know what you mean about swapping cable. 3 comps, one telephone line, dial up!! lol :-( Guess I will have to get another phone line, these short molecules give this old lady a pain. ;-) pat

In reality this is a false reading. The following 20 TEAM MEMBERS should not be counted. So there is a longer ways to go.

Ed,
I haven't taken the time to make a list, but there are several members that made contributions and stopped for whatever reason.
So, if you wanted to make a list of currently contributing members it would be even less.

|
10707, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by vitalt, Thu Jan-03-02 07:01 AM
the way i look at it is if they did anything towards results then they contributed and hurray and thanks for that..if they downloaded or at least thought about it then thanks for looking..there could be many reasons to stop..incompatabilities which i have heard of although few...no up time available whatever...if they didnt do it for whatever reson its up to them...some of them simply reloaded and started a new line of devices...ie...casca6 i believe varthlocker has more than one (not sure)and think there are others so when looking at 00000's I dont rule them out they may still be working on it.Hurry up and get some points on the board....:-)
now all you people that dont fall into that category...well...wat'r ya waitin for we can use your help...:-)
besides.... spezis getting further ahead of me...and laughing about it.....:-)

One was me. My new install of XP crashed and I hadn't written down my ID. So I couldn't figure out how to get my old ID back. So signed up with Maggie99635. They wouldn't take Maggie for some reason. I'm also Maggie_640314. Oh well....

10709, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by yomama1953, Thu Jan-03-02 07:03 AM
Ed, I'm sorry you feel I should not be counted. I have a very old used computer with not much RAM and a pentium one. On a fixed income, it is difficult to leave your computer running 24/7. I was off UD for a few days due to reinstalling my Windows98SE, but, I thought I was making a small contribution before that and was under the impression that every little bit helps. It may not be what you are saying, but what I am hearing is if you can't keep up with the big boys, don't even try.
It is sometimes difficult for disabled people to feel they are useful. This program makes me feel useful again. I am a former chemotherapy nurse and its kinda right up my alley. So, if you don't mind, I'll just keep UD and run it when I can. If I have offended you the way you just did me, I apologize.

10710, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by miztrial, Thu Jan-03-02 07:11 AM
yomama!! EVERY little bit counts! You never know, it just might be YOUR module that solves the big one! The friendly competition here is only for fun and to get people interested in joining up! I'm sure noone meant to slight you at all! PLEASE continue to contribute whatever you can........that is what counts!!!!
Anne

Sniff, sniff, that's what me and my lil ole 'puter need--encouragement! I sure hope anyone else on that list won't take it as public ridicule and not try. Would love to see a cure in my lifetime. I can remember when Hodgkins was an automatic death sentence--we have come a long way! :)
|
10712, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by dubber, Thu Jan-03-02 07:25 AM
yomama1953 at one time was a member of my little group of "arkies" working as a group under my name. She has contributed as part of that group (see below) and I am sure will continue to do so in the future on her own..

10713, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by Spezi, Thu Jan-03-02 08:49 AM
You hang in there Yomama1953 (Good year 1953, that's when I hatched :-))every little bit helps and there will always be someone with a bigger faster computer. As you can tell I'm into racing but with very limited resources yet I still have a blast at the track even though some of the competitors have bottomless wallets. There's no shortage at all of guys with bigger motors or more horsepower but I race in my own class and have fun doing it. On a good day I may even show one of those other guys a thing or two. LOL.

Lot of us baby boomers hanging around here. Thumbs up to the talent on here too. (Vitalt designed my sig and told me how to do the avitar). :)
|
10715, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by Ed W., Thu Jan-03-02 07:41 AM
yomama,
That is not at all what I was saying about the members, or that they had to be super computers running.
It was just reflecting with dubber on the number of team members, I should have excluded the brand new ones at the bottom. I was more reflecting on the 04/01/01 dates and such. These are ones that never have shown a result, but are averaged into the PC911 Team. I see the ones with new accounts now running. It makes the team look bigger than it really is, and shows more poeple should be joining with the number of people we have here.
And no one knows the Big C better than I, I lost my beautiful 40 year old wife on 09/11/89.....so that date has long lived with me.
PS, my son has a Pentium 75 Laptop sitting here running for him at the University. They all add up.
Dubber has done more to get this team to move forward again, after it kinda stalled out. Everyone should take note.
Ed W.

10716, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by yomama1953, Thu Jan-03-02 07:54 AM
Aww, it's ok Ed. But, like Maggie, when I "rejoined" it didn't recognize my previous tasks, so, it will reflect 0's until I get some hours in. It is taking me forever to get this old thing paid for cause I can't afford much, but I got my eye on another when it IS paid for that has a big old pentium II and a whopping 64MB RAM (LOL)!
I would like to be able to hook em both up, but this big old softie knows some kids down the street in desparate need (4 straight 'A' kids in the same family) so I'll probably donate it.
Sorry to hear about your wife and anyone else who has lost someone to cancer, as most folks have.
|
10717, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by dubber, Thu Jan-03-02 08:00 AM
Ed,
I know at least one member joined and found out that UD would not run under Linux.
I ran across some info the other day that tells you how to configure Linux to run UD.
I am going to post the source thread as soon as I can find it again. Maybe tonight..
I suspect it it will be hard enough to do to appeal to Linux users as a challenge.

|
10718, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by Maggie, Thu Jan-03-02 07:44 AM
I don't leave it running all the time. I flashed with a new bios and WOW it is running hotter. All the time. It doesn't run any hotter under load but the idle temp is higher. That bothers me so I shut it down when I'm not around still get points though. Everything helps.
|
10719, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by rhbowler, Thu Jan-03-02 07:49 AM
yomama, I would like to think he didn't mean it the way he put it. That he is just poor with words as opposed to totally insensitive to yours, and others feelings. Do stay and keep on helping, and you are indeed, HELPING. Let me ask you something, which impresses you most, Bill Billionaire Gates giving millions of dollars, or some minimum wage guy givin 20 bucks he can't really afford to give? To me, your that guy, and i'm a hell of a lot more impressed that you, like him are doing all you can out of the goodness of your heart, and a desire to help. The desire is WAY more important than the means.
|
10720, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by ilona53, Thu Jan-03-02 07:30 AM
Ed..at what time did you do your 'research'? As of this moment, my score at 7 hrs 21min 40seconds=60 points. Big deal as to your listing of 20 members with 0's...
Do you like insulting people...do you do this often?
I am doing this to help research on cancer,etc...my sister died 3 years ago in Germany of cancer. I am not doing this to get my name on some list.
I am a lady, but right now, you can kiss my tush!
Lonnie
Edit: If I have mis-read your words, Ed, so sorry. But the presentation of names with zeros after them draws only 1 conclusion. We all share the loss of someone close to cancer.

Welcome to the UD PC911 Cancer Fighting Team.
Keep up the good work.
Got any more daughters? Sisters? LOL.

Dubber...1 older daughter - but I don't 'communicate' with her. If she has any common sense (which she never did - high IQ, but no common sense), she would have already joined (she has her own website - don't ask, I don't know the URL).
My only sister died of cancer, as I stated in previous post.

10724, RE: UD PC911 Team Results 01-01-02 Posted by dubber, Thu Jan-03-02 10:11 AM
yomama1953,
You could uninstall the UD Agent you have now and reinstall another one using the instructions you used the first time you joined UD. If you do not have a copy of the original instructions, I can send you another copy via email.
You need to come home to the "Arkies"(Arkie= from or associated with Arkansas) team. rhbowler is breathing down our neck.

Lonnie,
It was before today's was posted. Congrats.
It was not to insult people, but if it takes that to get results, then so be it.
As per my other posts, my wife, my father, and many other relatives DIED from it. As for MYSELF, I had my first cancer surgery a short few months back....so I am very in touch with it.
The last post fired up that Flodida Corrections team, so this may fire up a few more.
Being as you are married, I must decline the last offer. :)

Lonnie, I am indeed proud of you, as no doubt are the rest of us who know how you cringe at the sight of lengthy technical explanations like the ones offered at UD's Web site. I'm doubly impressed by the fact that you waylaid your daughter's computer and pressed it into service as well. By the way, no need to get your dander up. IMHO, someone that assumes that we can be "fired up" or otherwise manipulated by "insults" or other means into putting more effort into this project hold a pretty low opinion of our intellectual capacities, and I can't help but think that anyone making this assumption could not be accused of being "the sharpest knife in the rack." Being more aware than anyone else of my individual situation and limitations, I'm holding up my 886 points and standing tall!

I joined on 1/02/02.I have a question about performance. My overall performance is 96 out of 100 but my network performance is 59 out of 100. It shows that I have a dial up adapter- netgear FA 311 fast ethernet pci adapter, which I do.I am on cable with a network thru a SMC barricade router. I have Tiny Personal firewall. I have this computer set up with a dual boot Win 98se / XP ( thank you PC911 ) How can I increase my network performance? In 22 hours I have made 367 points. Is this high, low, or normal? I also have another 1000 MHz machine I will put online when I am comfortable with "sharing" my processor Thanks, John O'Brien (obwon):7

Wouldn't worry about it as most of our network connections seem to score poorly. I'm on cable and get only a 47 score with a P4 computer. Your points seems to indicate a shmoken system. I'd say you're doing great and thanks for helping. :-)

Obwon.
One of my computers has an overall score of 96 also. It earns around 400 points per day. It scores more or less depending on how many work units it completes.

10740, Keeping your points... Posted by Corr_Ofc_Fla, Fri Jan-04-02 04:27 AM
Here is a tip on keeping your points after a reformat or reinstall:
When you install the new UD Agent you will see a loggin screen where you can say that you are an existing member, then just enter the loggin information from your previous entry. You may need to use a different name for the new unit, but that will just give you a second entry under the original name and the original is all that will be listed on PC911, giving you just one set of points.
Hope this helpfull to some...and...Welcome Aboard to all the new members!!! :D
