Take it down to the Basics. Hard drive 1 stick of Ram and CD rom.
if it has onboard ram try using that or a video card it it does not.
Bad Ram, Video Cards an hard drives can cause all kinds of funky things including freezing up.
make sure you used enough Cpu Thermal paste.
How old is the powersuppy?
